Hi!

If you are reading this blog, I can assume you follow immigration news, and you are familiar with Canada’s 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan.

Even if the numbers have been reduced, Canada still expects to admit around 395,000 permanent residents in 2025, focusing on applicants already in Canada and those who speak French and wish to settle outside Quebec.

So with this in mind, let´s talk about how you can improve your chances to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in 2025? Here are my suggestions:

1- Maximize Language Results

Invest in language training to maximize your test results. Do not settle for the minimum CLB required, aim for the maximum score possible. Ensure you do not leave any points “on the table”.

2- Consider Adding a Second Language

This is even more important if your second language is FRENCH! This year´s PR target for French-speaking applicants is around 29, 000.  If you are able to achieve an NCLC 7 in French in all 4 abilities, you may be invited to apply under the French-Language Proficiency Category.

3-Add a Canadian Education

This can give you up to 25 points, depending on the program. It may also give you a chance to apply for a work permit (PGWP) after graduation, allowing you to gain valuable work experience.

Please keep in mind that not all programs are eligible for PGWP.

4-Target In-Demand Occupations In Your Job Search

There is no set list of in-demand occupations. So far, the tendency seems to be around natural and applied sciences, education, construction, and healthcare.

However, the government is expected to publish a list of occupations in demand and/or linked to government priorities on January 21, 2025. This list should also give you a good idea of where to focus your job search.

5- Consider Other Provinces and Locations Within Provinces

Open your horizon to other less populated provinces, and look for employment opportunities outside of the city centers. Some provinces also have special programs aimed at helping rural communities or give additional points for job offers located further away from their most populated centers.

Finally, do not wait to create your EE profile as soon as you are eligible for one, no matter how low your CRS score is. You can always work towards improving your score and update your profile. But we never know when the next draw is coming or what the CRS score will be. You do not lose anything by having an EE profile, and who knows? You may get lucky and get an ITA even with what we would consider a low score by today´s standards.
